UAE gov’t adopts VAT refund system for tourists
The UAE government has decided to implement a value-added tax (VAT) refund system for tourists.
The new system is aimed at boosting tourism and ensure the efficiency of the UAE tax system, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
“The system will be implemented in beginning the fourth quarter of 2018 in cooperation with an international specialised company in tax recovery services,” WAM reported, citing a cabinet press release.
The tourism sector added AED 154.1 billion to the UAE gross domestic product (GDP) in 2017, while the number of passengers through the GCC country’s airports reached 123 million in the same period.
