The UAE has announced the banning of imports of all species of domestic and wild live birds, ornamental birds, chicks, hatching eggs, meats and meat products, and non-heat-treated wastes from a group of bird flu-infected regions in Russia.
Taken by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MoCCAE), the decision was based on a report conducted by World Organisation for Animal Health.
The report revealed the outbreak of a highly pathogenic strain of bird flu, H5N2, on a farm in the central region of Kurskaya Oblast in Russia, according to Emirates News Agency (WAM).
“These measures reiterate the ministry’s keenness in achieving its strategic objectives including enhancing bio-security levels and eliminating pathogens before they enter the country,” assistant under-secretary for the food diversity sector at MoCCAE Majid Sultan Al Qassimi commented.
On the other hand, the UAE has permitted the import of thermally-treated poultry products from all parts of Russia.
