The Egyptian communications and information technology ministry and South Korea-based LG Electronics were in talks over building an electronics design centre.
The centre aims at developing the abilities and skills of youth in Egypt to design and develop electronics, communication minister Amr Talaat said in a statement.
LG’s expansion plan in the North African state includes the domestic manufacturing and export of mobile phones to enter new markets in Africa, Talaat added.
The company’s products will be available in the local market and will be exported to several Arab and African countries under the slogan of ‘Made in Egypt’, he noted.
This came during on a meeting between the minister and LG’s head of mobile phones and tablet computers department Maurice Lee, and CEO of LG Egypt Don Kwak.
