
Egypt to invest $1.8bn to develop Metro’s 1st, 2nd lines
The Egyptian Ministry of Transport on Tuesday signed supply and maintenance contracts with Korean-French conglomerate for air-conditioned six subway trains and two tractors for the Second Line of Cairo Metro.
A complete plan for the development of the First and Second Line, with total investments of EGP 30 billion ($1.81 billion), was devised to improve services provided to citizens, the ministry said in a statement.
The plan includes buying 32 air-conditioned trains and the rehabilitation of 23 trains in the First Line, with a total estimated cost of $727.49 million, along with 6 new trains and 2 tractors for the Second Line.
Korea’s Hyundai Rotem Company will manufacture the trains and supply them within 27 months, in addition to 2 years guarantee period.
