Dubai Duty Free (DDF) said that its sales hiked 4.3% year-on-year to AED 7.35 billion in 2018.
By the end of December 2018, the airport retailer announced that it surpassed the $2 billion milestone, Arabian Business reported.
Liquor topped selling categories in 2018, followed by perfumes, cigarettes, cosmetics, and electronics, DDF said.
Perfumes, cosmetics and electronics sales recorded AED1.1 billion, AED762.4 million and AED595.3 million, respectively, it highlighted.
Over the course of the previous year, sales in Departures grew 6.1% to AED6.5 billion, accounting for 88.3% of total 2018 sales, the firm, which is responsible for the duty-free operations at Dubai International Airport and Al Maktoum International Airport, noted.
Commenting on the company’s performance, Colm McLoughlin, executive vice chairman and CEO of DDF, said, “ marked our 35th anniversary and the crossing of the $2 billion mark. The entire team at Dubai Duty Free has worked hard to provide passengers with a first-class shopping experience at both Dubai International and Al Maktoum International.”
He added that the airport retailer will continue to boost its retail operation in 2019 while maintaining a busy events and promotional calendar.
