Jordan has by and large remained immune from the social and political unrest that permeated the rest of the MENA region in the wake of the Arab Spring.

That was partly due to the fact that the authorities stepped in with increases in social spending that ameliorated some of the protestors’ concern but added to the fiscal deficit.
