Algeria Banking Finance Insurance July 2017
Algeria’s banking, nance and insurance industries remain underdeveloped as compared to other countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, despite reports by the government to implement a series of reforms designed to promote growth. Reforms have included upgrading bank management; improving regulation through programmes, such as operational transparency, through new regulatory laws; as well as increasing government oversight of the banking system, while Algeria’s insurance market has been bolstered during the past fifteen years by increased deregulation and liberalisation in the sector, lowering of barriers to foreign entry and high levels of government spending on infrastructure.
