
Amir to meet US President on Tuesday
Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will meet with President Donald Trump of the friendly United States of America at the White House in Washington DC next Tuesday (July 9).
During the meeting, leaders will discuss aspects to develop the existing strategic cooperation between the two countries in various fields and exchange views on the latest developments in the region and the world.
The official visit of H H The Amir, which begins on Monday, July 8, will also include meetings with senior administration officials and members of Congress, as well as the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding on defense, energy, investment and air transport.
In April last year, H H the Amir on his official visit to the US had met with President Trump at the White House in which the US President had praised his country’s ties with Qatar.
Qatar and the US are strategic partners and strong relations between two countries cover almost all areas of cooperation.
The Qatari-US relations have continuously grown and developed in various fields. The United States supports the Qatari diplomatic initiatives on a number of regional issues.
At the economic level, the State of Qatar maintains economic and trade ties with the US. Both countries adopt consistent economic policies.
The State of Qatar is the fourth largest importer from the US in the Middle East.
At the educational and cultural levels, the Education City in Doha hosts branches of a number of US universities. The exchange of student between the United States and Qatar keeps increasing.
Both countries have also signed a number of agreements on economic, commercial, technical cooperation; air transport services; civil aviation safety; educational, cultural and media cooperation; promotion and protection of mutual investments among many others.
Last week, William Grant, Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires of the US in Qatar, said that the upcoming visit of Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to the US is expected to be important and will build on the longstanding partnership between two countries by further strengthening economic and security ties.
William Grant had said that several new agreements including one in the area of trade are expected to be announced and bilateral discussions will be held in areas of mutual interest such as regional issues during the visit.
“The relationship between the US and Qatar is active and diverse. His Highness has visited the US about once a year on a regular routine and that helps both sides to work the agenda we do in the remaining months,” said Grant. Answering a question, Grant acknowledged that bilateral discussions will focus on matters related to the ongoing blockade imposed on Qatar and issues about Iran.
